Jay Leno crashes his Tesla into police car as he heads to performance after horror fire

Jay Leno has been involved in a collision with a police car just six days after he was discharged from a burn centre following a terrifying blaze.

The 72-year-old comedian was making his way to his much-anticipated comeback show at The Comedy & Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California when the incident happened.

Jay was driving to the venue with his wife Mavis when the rear right tire of his Tesla collided with a police Jeep.

Police officers were stood outside of the vehicle and then turned around to see what had happened when they heard the crash.

Jay was seen checking with the officers to see if he had 'hit their tires', but the police said it was 'no big deal' as no damage had been caused.

"We got two shows tonight. Regular and extra crispy! Never thought of myself as a roast comic!

"Thank you, thank you, goodnight. I got burned, I was in hospital for a few days, and now I’m back out working again. People do that every day," Jay said in a video obtained by Daily Mail.

Jay seemed to be in good spirits as he talked to reporters outside the venue, after recently being discharged from hospital after suffering injuries to his face, neck and arms following a major fire at his car garage in Los Angeles.

He had spent 10 days in the Grossman Burn Centre where he was having 'skin grafts' as well as other surgeries to aid his severe injuries.

During his hospital stay, Jay was visited by Tim Allen, who joked his friend was "still handsome". Tim told TMZ as he left the hospital: "He’s good. It’s wonderful because he’s feeling better.

"I gave him some car magazines, he did some jokes, because that’s what we do. We commiserated and just connected as friends, it’s the one thing you can do."

He then joked: "His face looks great. It didn’t look all that good to begin with. He’s going with the George Clooney look, you’re going to be surprised. He’s handsome and he’s happy and the hospital is doing a great job taking care of him."

At the time of the fire, Jay told The Mirror: "I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am ok. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet."
