Jay Leno confirms quick return to stage after being hospitalised in terrifying blaze

J ay Leno isn't allowing his injuries to stop him going about his day-to-day life after he was severely burned in a car blaze.

The comedian and presenter, 72, injured his face, neck and arms in the terrifying fire at his car garage in Los Angeles.

The incident left him hospitalised for 10 days as he required 'skin grafts' as well as other surgeries to aid his third-degree burns.

But despite only recently being released, Jay insists he's not going to reschedule his upcoming show in Hermosa Beach, California. Instead, he'll honour his commitments this Sunday and perform at The Comedy & Magic Club.

Speaking to Page Six from his car, the former Tonight Show host confirmed his appearance before adding: "[I’m] hanging in there. Everything’s fine."

He then joked that rather than sleep he needs a barbecue.

The confirmation comes after both Jay and his doctor had predicted he'd be back to work sooner rather than later. Jay previously told the Mirror he was "ok" and just needed "a week or two to get back on my feet".

Dr Peter Grossman of LA’s Grossman Burn Center where Jay was treated also said: "As I’m getting to know Jay, I don’t think it’s going to be months. I think he’s the kind of guy who’s gonna move forward."

During his hospital stay, Jay was visited by Tim Allen, who joked his friend was "still handsome". Tim told TMZ as he left the hospital: "He’s good. It’s wonderful because he’s feeling better.

"I gave him some car magazines, he did some jokes, because that’s what we do. We commiserated and just connected as friends, it’s the one thing you can do."

He then joked: "His face looks great. It didn’t look all that good to begin with. He’s going with the George Clooney look, you’re going to be surprised. He’s handsome and he’s happy and the hospital is doing a great job taking care of him."

The incident could have been much worse if it hadn't been for the quick-thinking of Jay's pal Dave. It's thought the terrifying ordeal could have been fatal if Dave hadn't "jumped on him, quickly smothering the flames".

TMZ reported that the left side of Jay's face was badly burned as were his hands, but Dave was praised for his actions.
