Jay Idzes to Aberdeen FC transfer OFF as Hibs given clear path to deal with Pittodrie 'commitment' questioned

Jay Idzes will NOT be signing for Aberdeen as the Dons move on to alternative defensive targets, according to a report.

Record Sport revealed last month that Hibs have also registered an interest in the Go Ahead Eagles centre-back and planned to have him watched when his club faced Feyenoord at De Kuip on Sunday, May 14. Aberdeen's pursuit of Idzes goes back to the January window and they initially tried to land him then, but uncertainty over Jim Goodwin's future as boss in the latter stages of that transfer period made him want to wait.

New gaffer Barry Robson wanted him as part of his plans for a tilt at retaining the Premiership's third spot and European group stage football, but the Press and Journal claim Aberdeen have "pulled the plug" on their pursuit. The report also stated there were "growing questions over the Dutchman’s commitment to joining Aberdeen" and that they have informed Idzes’ representative they will now move on to other transfer targets.

They will move swiftly on another defender though. The report claims the Pittodrie side "are now close to landing an alternative central defensive target" in the coming days.

Already this summer, Robson has signed Livingston right-back Nicky Devlin on a free transfer, before last week completing making Leighton Clarkson's loan from Liverpool permanent. Slovenian striker Ester Sokler is their latest.
