Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has Aberdeen contract terminated as Jim Goodwin steps up Pittodrie revamp

Aberdeen have terminated the contract of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas with immediate effect.

Emmanuel-Thomas signed on a two year deal from Livingston last May under former boss Stephen Glass.

But the 31-year old couldn't cement a regular place in the Dons first team, scoring just one goal in 24 appearances.

He was completely frozen out from the matchday squad under Glass' successor Jim Goodwin with the former St Mirren boss citing his fitness as an issue.

Now Aberdeen have officially announced his departure - with five Premiership games remaining.

A club statement read: "The club can this afternoon confirm it has terminated the contract of Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

"The forward made 24 appearances for the Dons, making 12 starts and 12 substitute appearances and netted once.

"All at Aberdeen FC wish Jay the very best in his future career."

Goodwin has already wielded the axe on several personnel at the north east club and had hinted that Emmanuel-Thomas' future was in doubt just weeks after taking the Pittodrie hot seat.

Scott Brown left and Andrew Considine is set to follow in the summer.

He said: "The big man has got a bit of work to do physically before he will be considered."
