Jaw-dropping Rangers figures outline scale of Scottish Cup loss to Queen's Park

The scale of Queen's Park's Scottish Cup triumph over Rangers has been laid bare in staggering financial statistics.

Callum Davidson's Scottish Championship side provided the shock of the fifth round as they earned a 1-0 win over Rangers at Ibrox to book a place in the quarter-final.

Sebastian Drozd scored the only goal as the Spiders piled pressure on Philippe Clement at Rangers.

Now, figures curated by Kieran Maguire - who runs the Price of Football podcast - have outlined the sheer disparity in financial power between the two clubs.

Queen's Park haven't spent a penny on player purchases with the total squads cost sitting at zero for the Glasgow club.

Meanwhile, Rangers have invested £21m in player trading in 2024 with the £48.99m total squad cost dwarfing that of the Championship side.

It is a similar story when it comes to wages with Rangers playing more than 20 times the amount of Queen's Park to staff. The Championship club spend £2.75m on wages with Rangers' total at £61.19m.

Queen's Park will have earned a tidy bonus for their progression in the Scottish Cup this season and a share of ticket sales for the match at Ibrox - but their revenue total is a mere fraction of that of Rangers.

The Ibrox club posted a revenue of £88.31m which is compared to the £3.86m from Queen's Park.

Pundit Kris Boyd criticised Clement's response to the inquest over the result as he blasted "excuses" and the failure to cite budgets as the Belgian has done previously after Europa League matches.

"Ultimately, Philippe Clement speaks about budgets when he is coming up against clubs that are superior to Rangers in Europe or Celtic, but doesn't flip it the other way," Boyd said. "He talks about chances created - nobody cares how many shots you have had on goal. The Rangers fans are fed up with Philippe Clement's excuses.

"Clement has already had a lot of criticism - and rightly so, in my opinion. 13 points behind Celtic in the league, out of the Scottish Cup to Queen's Park at home and lost the League Cup final to Celtic. Yes they have qualified for the last 16 of the Europa League but domestically - when I was growing up - was the be all and end all. And right now, it's not good enough."
