Javon Freeman-Liberty is worthwhile gamble for Chicago Bulls

For the Chicago Bulls, the summer league is an important opportunity. Obviously, the Bulls are looking to compete for a playoff spot next year, but developing young talent should also be a priority as they look to improve internally and secure a better future for the organization.

Heading into the summer league, Dalen Terry, Julian Phillips and Adama Sanogo were among the most intriguing names, but one player quickly separated himself: Javon Freeman-Liberty. The point guard has emerged as the best player on Chicago’s summer league roster, and it isn’t particularly close. He’s proving worthy of an NBA opportunity.

According to Elias Schuster of Bleacher Nation, Freeman-Liberty is a worthwhile gamble for the Bulls heading into next season.

“The Bulls do currently have a couple of full-time roster spots left open,” Schuster wrote. “They also should have at least one two-way contract to offer. Especially if Ayo Dosunmu doesn’t end up wearing a Bulls jersey next year, it feels like Freeman-Liberty might be a worthwhile gamble. Heck, even if Dosunmu returns, extending him at least a two-way slot might be wise. I know there would be a rather significant logjam at the guard position, but developing young talent needs to remain a priority for this organization. If the Bulls don’t keep him around for further evaluation, I have a very good feeling someone else will.”

As Schuster noted, the Bulls already have solid guard depth, but with how well Freeman-Liberty has played, Chicago should give him a roster spot (or a two-way contract) or another team will.
