Javier Hernandez 'understands' Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to leave Manchester United

Javier Hernandez 'understands' Cristiano Ronaldo's desire to leave Manchester United due to his need to play Champions League football.

Less than a year on from returning to United as a hero, Ronaldo has made it clear that he wants to leave Old Trafford for a second time this summer. It's understood that the club's failure to qualify for Europe's top competition has been a major factor in his decision, as well as the 25 per cent pay cut that entailed and the club's slow progress in the summer transfer window.

Ronaldo's former teammate and ex-United frontman Chicarito can see where he's coming from and thinks he would also do whatever would have 'benefited myself'. “I just think about himself or any player what would I do? What would have benefited myself?” Hernandez replied when asked about Ronaldo by PA.

“It’s completely different as him as everyone else, you know? So I understand him, then what is going to happen is time will tell what is there – correct or not correct? Will this turn around good? We will see.

“That’s the beauty of it. The uncertainty of life. We’ll see. What if he stays and scores 40 goals?”

Despite Ronaldo going public with his wish to find a new club back in June, no suitors have yet come forward to offer him an escape route. Meanwhile, United have maintained their No.7 isn't for sale.

Ronaldo missed the majority of pre-season due to family reasons amid his uncertain future and then earned criticism from the manager upon his return after leaving the friendly with Rayo Vallecano early. Though he wasn't fit enough to start, Ten Hag was forced into calling upon Ronaldo in Sunday's defeat to Brighton off the bench with Anthony Martial out injured.
