LUDHIANA: Facing sentence in the sensational "Jassi’ murder case", former sub inspector Joginder Singh has been booked for misplacing 181 judicial files, which initially were stolen by an Ahlmad in 1999.
The accused SI had recovered the stolen files from the Ahlmad however later, he himself misplaced them
Importantly, Joginder Singh was dismissed as he was arrested for "honor killing" of Jaswinder Kaur Jassi in the year 2000, contract of which was given by her mother Malkit Kaur and uncle Surjit Singh, because Jassi had married her lover Sukhwinder Singh Mithu, of Jagraon , against the wishes of her family. It was a sensational case.
The fresh FIR has been lodged against Joginder Singh, under section 409 (criminal murder case by public servant) of IPC who at present is lodged in Nabha Jail, on the directions of District and Session Judge.
The FIR mentioned that sub-inspector Joginder Singh, who was then SHO at Jodhewal Police station had received information that, an Ahlmad who was absent from his duty, had stolen judicial files from the court complex. On April 7, 1999 the Sub-Inspector had lodged an FIR against Jaswant Singh following which he was arrested on April 12, 1999. The police on the same day had recovered 181 missing judicial files from his house. However, after recovering the missing files, the SI did not submit it in the court.
A chargesheet was submitted in the court by the police against Jaswant Singh and the trials were on, however Jaswant died on March 11, 2008.
Thereafter, on March 29, 2017, then additional district and Session judge Ludhiana had concluded a report that judicial files were recovered by the police officials from the possession of the deceased Jaswant Singh ahlmad however those were never handed over to any of the concerned officials of the judicial department. Moreover, during a probe SI Joginder could not tell the whereabouts of the files.
Inspector Gurpreet Singh, SHO at Sadar police station said that a case has been registered against ex-cop Joginder Singh who is facing life term and is lodged in Nabha Jail. The police will bring him on a production warrant from the jail for questioning.
