Jason Roy will not play for Surrey in the early part of the county season having pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) citing bubble fatigue.

Roy was picked up by Gujarat Titans, one of two new franchises, for around £200,000 at last month’s auction, but has now withdrawn. Roy’s second child was born in January and he recently had a successful stint in the Pakistan Super League.

"It is with a heavy heart I have decided to pull out of this year’s tournament,” he said in a statement thanking his franchise.

“Everything going on in the world over the last three years it’s added up and taken its toll on me. I feel it’s only right I spend some quality time with my family as well as spending time working on myself and my game over the next couple of months leading into a very busy year.”

Roy will sit out all cricket indefinitely. He did not play a first-class match for Surrey last summer and the season begins with a block of red-ball action until the end of May.
