Jason Manford tells Starstruck viewers to 'chill out' as he defends Sheridan Smith

ITV's brand new entertainment series Starstruck made its debut on Saturday, February 12.

The programme sees members of the public compete in teams as they transform into the world's biggest music icons and has been compared to '90s and '00s talent show Stars In Their Eyes. You can read more on how the show works here.

Hosted by Olly Murs, Starstruck has a judging panel made up of Adam Lambert, Sheridan Smith, Beverley Knight and Jason Manford.

But following the first instalment of the Saturday night talent contest, judge Jason was forced to address comments about his co-star, actress and musical theatre star Sheridan Smith.

The comedian and West End star hit back following comments that Sheridan has been on telly "a lot" recently.

The incredible actress has recently starred in the Channel Five series The Teacher, as secondary school teacher Jenna Garvey, and is currently appearing on the harrowing drama No Return on ITV.

Jason tweeted: "Seen a few comments about Sheridan being on TV a lot this week.

"It's not sommat she's in charge of, she would've filmed those three excellent shows last year and some scheduler decided they went on this week.

"So chill out, also she's excellent and you're lucky to have her."

Jason also clapped back at viewers who repeatedly compared the programme to Matthew Kelly's Stars In Their Eyes.

He said: "Enjoy Starstruck It's a great show. If you think we sat the whole series and not one of mentioned the similarity to #StarsInTheirEyes, you're thick mate!

"Of course it is, so feel free to not tell me but do try to guess who the contestants are gonna be and best soundalike."

Jason also appeared during The Masked Singer 2022 finale over the weekend to sing alongside Charlotte Church's Mushroom after coming runner up as Hedgehog in 2020.

Following his Saturday night appearances, Jason said: "Thanks for all your lovely comments from tonight's #MaskedSingerUK & #Starstruck.

"Always love making these shows, absolutely hate them going out, but you have all been really lovely and I appreciate it. Take care."

Starstruck continues on ITV on Saturday night.
