Jason Manford has shared a rather unfortunate moment that won't now make it to air when he returns to ITV later this month with the network's own New Year's Eve Party show.
The Salford comedian is the host of The National Lottery’s New Year's Eve Big Bash which was filmed earlier this month but doesn't actually air, as you've probably already gathered, until December 31. He's joined on presenting duties by Britains Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon for the New Year's extravaganza, filmed at London’s Ovo Arena Wembley.
Described by Alesha as a “huge house party”, entertainment comes from Tom Grennan, Adam Lambert, Joel Corry, Raye, Katherine Jenkins, Cirque du Soleil and more. There will also be an obligatory look back on the cultural highlights of 2022 as well as celebrating extraordinary people and the difference they have made thanks to National Lottery funding.

To promote the upcoming TV event, Jason appeeared on ITV's Lorraine where he spoke to stand-in host Ranvir Singh. And as he chatted to the presenter and former Strictly Come Dancing star, Jason revealed the "weird" - and now excruciating - moment where along they had to pre-record a moment for this year’s National Lottery New Year's Eve Bash, as if England had won the World Cup.
"What was weird was, it was before England went out of the World Cup," the 41-year-old revealed. So we had this really weird moment where we had to also record a bit just in case we won the World Cup."
And as football fans know, England crashed out of the tournament in Qatar just days after the ITV show was filmed after losing in the quarter-final stage to France, who ended up finishing runner-up to eventual winners Argentina.
Jason also revealed how the football theme continued as the Lionesses attended the party: "It was quite a funny night, and we had the Lionesses on and we had the Lionesses from the Seventies, the trailblazers and they were just party animals, just so much fun."
While appearing on Lorraine, Ranvir also asked Jason about his support of the nurses strike. He opened up about his personal connection to the NHS and his thoughts on the current ambulance workers’ walkout, candidly saying: "My mum's a nurse and my dad was an NHS shop steward and Union leader, so it’s a hard thing to talk about."
He added: "Nobody gets into nursing for the money." Jason also spoke on the difficulties of sharing his opinion about the subject on social media: “On social media, you get so many negative responses that in the end you just [think] ‘I’ll keep my mouth shut’.
"It’s not an average job and when you were outside clapping them on a Thursday during Covid, and now to not let them do this, is pretty low. I just can't comprehend how people can't be behind the nurses. It's not the nurses' fault. If you know a nurse, the last thing they wanna do is leave the hospital and be on strike. Yes, they're asking for a raise with inflation but again, they're asking for a lot of other things for us, the patients."
