The Dallas Mavericks' season took sharp turn for the worse when the front office shockingly blew up the roster by trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal that returned Anthony Davis.
Davis proceeded to suffer an injury in his first game with the organization, and since then, the Mavs have fallen down the standings in the West. They’ll all but surely make the play-in tournament as the No. 10 seed in the conference, but it's been a difficult second half of the campaign for the organization.
When asked about his confidence in Dallas's front office ahead of Doncic's return to the American Airlines Center on Wednesday, head coach Jason Kidd made clear that he has faith in the organization's ability to win a championship under GM Nico Harrison and owner Patrick Dumont.
"We believe in Nico and Patrick," said Kidd, via Joey Mistretta of ClutchPoints.
Kidd is in his fourth season as coach of the Mavericks, and it's a much different squad than the one he inherited in 2021. After the team reached the NBA Finals in 2024, the decision to move on from Doncic was a major shock.
The abundance of injuries sustained by players on the team during the second half didn't help as the team looked to find some stability in the aftermath of the trade. The center position was a nightmare for the team, with Davis, Dereck Lively II and Daniel Gafford all missing significant time with injury, as well as star point guard Kyrie Irving who suffered a season-ending ACL tear.
Kidd made clear that despite all of the turbulence that has riddled the team throughout the campaign, the organization still believes it can achieve its ultimate goal with Harrison pulling the strings in the front office.
