Jason Kelce’s phone slam incident at Penn State: Everything we know so far

Jason Kelce went viral on Saturday when multiple videos showed him walking into Penn State’s Beaver Stadium for an appearance on ESPN’s College GameDay. He heard someone yell, “Hey Kelce! How does it feel your brother is a [expletive] for dating Taylor Swift?”

The expletive in question was an anti-LGBTQ slur, and Kelce stopped, grabbed the phone of the person who said it and slammed it to the ground.

Since then, some stuff has happened, and we want to catch you up on it. Here’s everything that you need to know as that moment has led to an investigation opening:

Here’s the video of the incident at Penn State

HUGE WARNING: THERE IS NSFW LANGUAGE WITH THE AFOREMENTIONED SLUR.

Kelce apologized for the phone slam

Kelce used some of his time on Monday Night Countdown to address it:

Penn State police opened an investigation

From the Philadelphia Inquirer:

According to Penn State crime logs, an “officer observed a visitor damaging personal property,” listing criminal mischief and disorderly conduct as potential offenses, at the intersection of Curtin Road and Commuter Drive just outside Beaver Stadium, where the incident was caught on video.

In Pennsylvania, criminal mischief for damages in excess of $500 is a third-degree misdemeanor, which could lead to a fine and up to 90 days in jail if convicted. Disorderly conduct is often classified as a summary offense; potential consequences include up to 90 days in jail or a $300 fine.

We’ll update this when we know more.
