The newest season of The White Lotus might be over but it looks like the drama won’t leave us anytime soon. Jason Isaacs has amped up his feud with North Carolina’s Duke University by vowing to wear the uni’s merch “whenever there’s a camera around”.
The beef between Duke University and The White Lotus star kicked off after the university released a statement claiming that the drama series did not receive permission to use their logo.
“The White Lotus not only uses our brand without permission, but in our view uses it on imagery that is troubling, does not reflect our values or who we are, and simply goes too far,” wrote Duke’s vice president for communications, marketing and public affairs, Frank Tramble.
Since then, Isaacs has been happily wearing Duke-branded clothing at any opportunity.
In a latest podcast appearance, Isaacs has fanned the feud flames.
“I was in Virginia and people drove from Durham, North Carolina very sweetly to come,” Isaacs said to fellow actor Rob Lowe on a recent episode of the latter’s podcast: Literally! With Rob Lowe.
“They drove just to tell me that they thought my accent was accurate and I shouldn’t listen to the people who don’t know what a Durham North Carolina accent is, and they brought me Duke t-shirts.
“So I now have a selection of Duke t-shirts. I didn’t wear one today. If I’d known I’d have it on now, but I am intending to wear them whenever there’s a camera around.”

Isaacs’ recent comments were made in response to a statement sent to Bloomberg News made by Duke University, that expressed disapproval with the show’s use of the university’s logo in the show.
Throughout the show’s third season, Isaacs’ character is shown grappling with suicidal and homicidal thoughts while wearing Duke’s logo in multiple scenes.
In the podcast, Isaacs delved deeper into the “hubbub” with Duke, stating that the university should “be far more worried” about the university’s “real-life alumni” instead of focusing on the character he played on TV.
“Someone at Duke decided that was really untoward and was not happy with the association,” Isaacs said to Lowe.
“Other people online were pointing out that there’s real-life alumni of Duke to be far more worried about than a fictional alumni.”
Isaacs also discussed the process of how the logo found its way onto the show with help from the costume designer, and stated that he was “pretty sure” that the production crew “got it cleared” for him to wear Duke paraphernalia.
“I’m pretty sure they got it cleared because, as you know, you don’t ever go on television without getting all the logos cleared,” Isaacs said.
With Isaacs continuing to beef with Duke University, rumours swirling between costars Walton Goggins and Aimee Lou Wood as well as a poorly-received SNL sketch involving Wood and Sarah Squirm, the behind the scenes drama is shaping up to be just as riveting as the show itself.
