Jason Donovan has been left devastated by the axing of Neighbours from UK screens.
The actor found fame on the Australian soap - in which he starred as Scott Robinson alongside pop star Kylie Minogue. Jason's character Scott was famously involved in a storyline where he tied the knot with Kylie's character Charlene Robinson.
Channel 5 have confirmed that they will no longer air Neighbours from the summer, and Jason has now broke his silence on the show being axed as he admits he is devastated by the news and hopes another channel will pick it up in the UK.
" @neighbours changed the Australian television landscape. It launched many careers over decades including mine," he wrote on Twitter, "Engaged and entertained audiences for generations.
"Hoping that it will find a new home with another U.K. broadcaster and continue to provide opportunity and entertainment."
Channel 5 have confirmed to The Mirror that Neighbours will stop airing from the summer.
A spokesperson said: "Neighbours will no longer air on Channel 5 beyond this summer. It's been a much-loved part of our schedule for more than a decade, and we’d like to thank the cast, Fremantle and all of the production team for their fantastic work on this iconic series. We’d also of course like to thank the fans for their loyal support of Neighbours across the years.
"We recognise that there will be disappointment about this decision, however our current focus is on increasing our investment in original UK drama, which has strong appeal for our viewers."
Bosses are said to be keen to bring some of the show's biggest stars including Kylie back for a special episode.
"There’s a lot of disbelief and sadness among those who know it’s ending. They are currently in the process of approaching a number of former cast members, including Kylie, to make a special return," a source told The Sun.
"Now it’s the end, it really would be something special to have her back in Ramsay Street one last time."
Neighbours has seen a number of big stars grace their screens before they became super famous including Kylie and Jason Donovan, as well as actress Margot Robbie and actors Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth.
