Jason David Frank's wife confirms TV star took his own life after an 'emotional talk'

Jason David Frank's wife detailed the heart-breaking minutes before the Power Ranger star's death, confirming he died after taking his own life.

Jason was just 49-years-old when he died on November 20 during what his grief-stricken widow Tammie Frank intended to be a "fun weekend getaway".

Jason was best known for playing Green Power Ranger Tommy Oliver and his final film as the character, Legend of the White Dragon, was set for release next year.

No cause of death was confirmed following Jason's tragic death earlier last month, but now Tammie has had her say in a new gut-wrenching statement.

"I lost the love of my life. Jason was a good man, but he was not without his demons," Tammie told PEOPLE in her devastating statement.

She said the pair were 'trying to work through their problems' after Tammie had previously filed for divorce earlier this year, having accused Jason of infidelity.

The couple tied the knot in 2003 and were on track to build back their relationship, with Tammie calling off the separation only recently.

In November last year Tammie's daughter Shayla, who Jason helped raise as his own, sadly passed away unexpectedly, a tragic ordeal which caused "marital problems".

"Between losing her and helping raise her baby son, Jason and I started having marital issues," Tammie said – shortly after those issues, the pair separated.

But, six weeks ago they decided to rekindle, with a family member stepping in to help them reunite. Jason planned a two-night getaway, attending a country dancing event.

Tammie said they stayed in separate rooms due to Jason's snoring, adding: "We danced and stayed out at the event until the bar closed. When we got back to the hotel, Jason and I were having a heartfelt and emotional talk in his room."

In a bid to help Jason "relax and sober up" before going to sleep, Tammie headed downstairs to get them both some snacks from the lobby, not knowing that would be his last moments.

Describing the heart-breaking events that followed, she said: "I must've been gone no more than 10 minutes. I went back upstairs and began knocking on the door to no answer.

"I knocked repeatedly and kept calling for his name to open the door.

"I don't know if the hotel staff or a guest called the police, but after I was taken downstairs by the police, they were able to open the door and found that Jason took his life."

Jason is survived by his four children, sons Hunter and Jacob, as well as his daughters, Skye and Jenna – Tammie has asked the people respect her family's privacy.

"I loved my husband, and we were trying to work through our problems. His death comes as much a shock to me as anyone else," she explained.

She says she had "no idea that Jason was thinking of ending things" and that he had "struggled with mental health issues and depression before".

"I could never predict what would happen that night," Tammie explained. "It was meant to be a fun weekend getaway, and instead, I lost the love of my life.

"Jason was a good man, but he was not without his demons. He was human, just like the rest of us."
