Jason Cummings has fired Central Coast Mariners to the glory of being crowned Australian champions in stunning fashion, and says he can't believe it after his career 'spiralling out of control'
The former Rangers and Hibernian star, who is always the entertainer on and off the pitch, stepped up to the plate to win the Grand Final for Mariners against rivals Melbourne City in a 6-1 hammering down under. Cummings previously noted how he 'needed to get out of Scotland' before making the move to the land of Oz and has capped off his final game for the Aussie side with three stunning goals.
But the 27-year-old insists since his unceremonious release from Dundee he has never experienced anything like his time in Australia and that his footballing career was getting 'out of control' in Scotland. The striker is set to leave the club to join Mohun Bagan Super Giant in India, and admitted the final was to be his 'last dance'.
Cummings held back tears on the pitch as the club celebrated and reflected on what he has achieved before, saying he has never had a manager believe in him like Nick Montgomery of Mariners.
He said: "It's the last dance man. I don't know what happened. We just beat the champions, great team, and we just beat them 6-1.
"I'm no surprised like, the team we've got, the boys with the hunger...Wow, what a journey man. I've been here a year-and-a-half and the gaffer has changed my life.
"My career was spiralling out of control and I came here, and I've just fell in love with the coast man. This team, honestly, wow...I'm lost for words man. I've never experienced anything like it in my life.
"I've never had a manager believe in me like that. I'm so glad I repaid him with a hat-trick in the final. We're going to party tonight, I'll tell you that."
