Jason Cummings has pundit 'intrigued' as ex-Hibs star tipped to cause World Cup 'headaches'

Former Hibs star Jason Cummings has Pat Nevin intrigued ahead of the World Cup as he tipped him to give opposition players a 'headache'

The former Rangers and Easter Road striker has been selected by Graham Arnold as part of his 26-man squad for Qatar 2022 after turning his career around at Central Coast Mariners following a move Down Under. He's recaptured his best form on the park and he will now get the chance to test himself in a tough section alongside France, Denmark and Tunisia as reward for his efforts at club level.

His involvement on the global stage of the game has former Chelsea star and pundit Nevin intrigued hailing the one-time Hibs forward as a 'great' player to watch and someone who is full of energy and goalscoring. The way his career has gone since his exit from the capital has surprised the pundit but he reckons this is a real chance for him to show what he is all about after a dream come true World Cup call-up.

Speaking to Grosvenor Sport, Nevin said: "I'm intrigued to see Jason Cummings at the World Cup. He's a great player to watch when he's got that energy and his goalscoring is good as well.

"I was surprised and saddened that it didn't go quite as well as I expected it to go when he left Hibernian but this is another chance for him. If the Jason Cummings of old turns up then he'll give people headaches.

"I have hope that he'll do well for Australia at the World Cup. One thing is for sure, lack of effort will not be a problem."

Cummings struggled to put into words what it meant for him to land a Socceroos place hailing it as the 'proudest' moment of his career.

Speaking after learning his fate, he said: “It is amazing, a dream come true. I can hardly put into words what it means to me and to describe to you how I am feeling.

“I would say it is the proudest moment of my whole career to be called up for Australia for the World Cup. A lot of people in Scotland had written me off.

“There was the claims I had a bad attitude and I was this and that. I was just the class clown and the joker. That was never the case.

“Football always comes first, and at my last club I wasn’t playing and I wasn’t getting the opportunity I have got across here. Now I am playing, doing well and I am making my name as a footballer.”
