Jarvis eyes pay-day fight with Tszyu after Thurman bout

Revelling in his self-styled new nickname of "The Wallet", all-action Australian boxer Brock Jarvis is eyeing a big-money super-fight with Nikita Tszyu.

Jarvis first must deal with American superstar Keith Thurman in Sydney on March 12 but the 27-year-old power puncher is already plotting a domestic blockbuster with Tszyu.

"I'd love that fight. It's a big fight here in Australia so of course I'd be interested in that," Jarvis told AAP ahead of his pay-per-view headliner at the Hordern Pavilion in two weeks.

A former unified welterweight world champion, Thurman (30-1, 22KOs) hasn't fought since February of 2022 but his only professional defeat has come against the legendary Manny Pacquiao almost six years ago.

"I understand three years out of the boxing ring is a long time for a man of his age, but he's a very experienced fighter so I've got to be ready for whatever Keith shows up," Jarvis said.

"I mean, this guy was supposed to fight Tim Tszyu, who was the champ at the time (last year), and no one was saying he was old then."

For all his respect for Thurman, Jarvis is adamant he will pack too many punches for the 36-year-old.

Jarvis (22-1, 20KOs) branded himself "The Wallet" after hearing Thurman claimed the Sydney slugger "stays in the pocket a little too long".

Now Jarvis reckons he will fill his wallet up when he takes out Thurman and can start dictating terms and set up a showstopper with Nikita Tszyu (10-0, 8KOs).

"Yeah, that's right. The ball would be in my court so I'd be able to do whatever I want," Jarvis said.

"I could be full of cash, mate."

Thurman pulled out of his slated showdown with Tim Tszyu last March, just two weeks before the Las Vegas match-up, prompting the doubters to claim he may not show up for Jarvis either.

Thurman is promising he will make the trip to Sydney to "slap" Jarvis but promoters No Limit Boxing have placed Michael Zerafa on the undercard as a contingency plan.

If Thurman does fail to front, Zerafa (32-5, 20KOs) has been pencilled in to fight Jarvis, instead of squaring off with German Besir Ay for the vacant WBO inter-continental middleweight title.

"I did see that and I didn't understand. I didn't get it and it revved me up a bit," Jarvis said.

"But I'm a fighter and of course I'm going to fight anyone, whoever's there,  but I didn't like that because I told Zerafa 'just worry about your fight that no one cares about anyway'.

"I don't pay too much attention to what he's doing, really.

"This is a big fight for me (against Thurman). This is a career-defining fight for me, so I'm not thinking about Michael Zerafa right now.

"I'm not really focused on who's going to show up. I'm focused on myself.

"I mean, I'm preparing for the best guy that could possibly be here.

"Thurman's not an easy fight, but I've still watched him and I do think that I do everything better than him anyway."
