Jaromir Jagr Eclipses Wayne Gretzky for Aggregate Goals Record

Former NHL player Jaromír Jágr broke Wayne Gretzky’s record for combined goals in professional and international games with his 1,099th goal on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.

Jágr currently owns and plays for the Kladno Knights in his hometown in the Czech Republic. The winger scored his record-breaking goal during the team’s 5–4 loss on Sunday. He scored two goals during the game.

The Czech star turns 51 years old on Feb. 15. He has considered retiring this season.

Jágr’s NHL career began in 1990 when he was drafted by the Penguins. Jágr played in Pittsburgh until 2001 and later spent time with the Capitals, Rangers, Flyers, Stars, Bruins, Devils, Panthers and Flames. He last played in the NHL in the 2017-18 season for Calgary.

Jágr’s 1,099 goals come from a combination of his 844 NHL goals, 93 Kontinental Hockey League goals, 107 Czech league goals and 55 more at international competitions, including the Olympics.

Gretzky finished his NHL career with 894 goals, which is still the NHL record. He also boasts 178 goals from his WHA career and 26 goals from international tournaments, putting his career total at 1,098 goals.
