With the announcement of Nick Mullens as the starting quarterback, the Minnesota Vikings are promoting rookie quarterback Jaren Hall to QB2 for Saturday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals. That means Josh Dobbs will be QB3, also known as the emergency quarterback.
This is a major development in the Vikings quarterback room. Hall was dressed the last two games as the third quarterback. During his media availability on Thursday, head coach Kevin O’Connell noted that Hall is fully healthy from his concussion that he suffered a month ago against the Atlanta Falcons.
This is a situation that isn’t the fairest to Dobbs due to his performance on Sunday against the Las Vegas Raiders looking as poorly as it did due to the six drops from the Vikings receivers while he was in the game. On the other hand, Hall was playing well before suffering his concussion and the argument has been made multiple times that he should be given a chance.
Will this be permanent? That remains to be seen but it’s also likely that Hall stays at QB2 or higher the rest of the season barring injury.
