Jared Leto has fans in hysterics dressed as Karl Lagerfeld's cat on Met Gala red carpet

Jared Leto encapsulated the theme of Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty at Monday night's Met Gala.

While Choupette herself didn't make an appearance despite an invitation to the event, the Joker actor appeared on the red carpet as the beloved pet cat with an air of mystery as he was covered head to toe in a giant white cat costume.

It wasn't until he'd had a fair few pictures taken of him in the costume that he removed the head to unveil himself.

Fans online were in hysterics as they watched the giant cat walk the red carpet. One wrote: "Honestly Jared Leto under the cat suit was the most logical answer #MetGala."

A second put: "There’s only one person annoying enough to do this, and that’s Jared Leto. #MetGala2023."

"THIS IS SO UNSERIOUS I LOVE IT! JARED LETO AS CHOUPETTE," a third excitedly wrote.

Karl's cat Choupette led a life of luxury and decadence by Karl's side and even owned an iPad. The white Birman cat was adopted by the late Chanel creative director in 2011 and in his own words, m

Karl faced many controversies in his life as a fashion icon and was openly fatphobic, stating that “no one wants to see curvy women," hated sweatpants and believed to wear them wa a "sign of defeat" and was opposed of the MeToo movement.

But he revealed that owning Choupette helped him to "become a nicer person."

"I like being calm, and my cat is a presence that counts but isn't encumbering," he once told Numéro magazine. "She is peaceful, funny, fun, and gracious, she's pretty to look at and has good poise, but her main quality is that she doesn't talk."

When Karl died in 2019 after a battle with pancreatic cancer aged 85, Choupette shared an Instagram post as tribute to her father.

"With a once cold but now simply broken heart, I am going into mourning. I pray that your kind words and well-wishes will help me to put my best paw forward in my future without Daddy @KarlLagerfled & as my own woman," she wrote as her caption, alongside an image of her wearing a black veil.

Choupette was rumoured to have inherited a large chunk of Karl's $300million net worth.
