Jared Goff now second-highest paid quarterback in division after Jordan Love gets paid

Lions quarterback Jared Goff didn’t spent very long as the highest-paid quarterback in the NFC North. That title now belongs to Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

Love agreed to a four-year extension worth $220 million. That ties him with Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence at $55 million per year. However, Love’s contract stands out as he was given a whopping $75 million signing bonus, almost as much as Burrow ($40 million) and Lawrence ($37.5 million) combined. Of course, that’s also only $2 million more than the $73 million signing bonus Goff received from the Lions.

Goff was guaranteed about $170 million total, about $20 million more than what Love will get guaranteed for the contract.

An offer for Lions fans

Overall, Goff is now fifth in the league in terms of average annual value and that was after dropping two spots in a matter of hours after Love and Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa ($53.1 million average) both received contracts worth more per year than Goff’s $52 million.

Goff received a high contract, there’s no question about that. But it didn’t take long for that contract to seem a bit smaller in the grand scheme of things.

Love had a great second half of the season in 2023, no one is denying that. But the Packers are banking on that production over essentially an eight-game span to continue. Love could be due for a regression in 2024. Goff, on the other hand, has been more consistent since coming to Detroit and nearly reached the Super Bowl.

Lions-Packers matchups just got a lot more exciting (and maybe expensive).
