Just over a year ago, Jalen Ramsey went scorched-earth to quarterbacks across the NFL and blasted nearly every one of them in an interview with GQ. He called Josh Allen “trash,” said Joe Flacco “sucks,” and claimed Matt Ryan is “overrated” – even forgetting the Falcons QB’s name.
A few quarterbacks were safe from Ramsey’s path, including Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers. Jared Goff was not so fortunate and was one of the quarterbacks brought up by Ramsey unprovoked.
All things considered, though, Ramsey’s comments on Goff were much tamer than what he said about others.
Jared Goff, he’s average to above average. He reminds me of Jimmy Garoppolo a little bit. Year one, he wasn’t good. He wasn’t even good enough to earn his own starting role. Like, if you the number one pick, you expected to start now. Period. He wasn’t ready to do that. He wasn’t able to do that. Then when he did get in, he didn’t really do that good. But in his second year, they got a new offensive coordinator. Your offensive coordinator is just your brainiac. When we played them, it felt like his offensive coordinator was drawing up perfect plays and then he was hitting the open man. For what his team ask him to do, yeah, he’s good.
With Goff and Ramsey now being teammates, some might think things will be awkward between the two. Surely, sharing a locker room with someone who didn’t think very highly of you a year ago has to be uncomfortable, right?
Not to Goff, who’s always maintained an even-keeled attitude. He brushed off Ramsey’s comments during his press conference Wednesday when asked about them.
“In relation to what he was calling a lot of people, that wasn’t half bad,” Goff said, laughing. “Again, that’s part of Jalen’s attitude and it doesn’t bother me one bit. I thought it was quite funny, actually. I’m excited to compete against him in practice and I’m sure we’ll have some words when he gets here. Again, I think it’s all fun and games and I’m excited to have him.”
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Goff is unbothered by Ramsey’s past comments, and they certainly won’t cause any ill-will between the two players. They’ll compete in practice, and Ramsey will almost certainly send some trash talk Goff’s way, but it’ll all be in good fun now.
They have one goal, and one goal only: win a Super Bowl together.
