Jared Goff and Josh Reynolds took down the Chiefs, just like old times

Jared Goff may no longer be a member of the Los Angeles Rams but he still has a place in the hearts of fans after leading the team to a Super Bowl in just his third season. And on Thursday night, Rams fans were excited to see him thriving against the Chiefs as a member of the Lions.

Goff led Detroit to a season-opening win over the defending champions at Arrowhead, with the Lions coming away with a 21-20 victory. And he did so with the help of another familiar face: Josh Reynolds.

Goff and Reynolds were two key players in the Lions’ victory, with both being former Rams. Goff threw for 253 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions, while Reynolds led all players with four receptions for 80 yards, including a key 33-yard gain in the fourth quarter to set up the Lions’ game-winning touchdown midway through the fourth quarter.

You may remember a certain Rams-Chiefs game from 2018, which to this day remains one of the best regular-season games in NFL history, if not the very best. It was a historic shootout between Goff and Patrick Mahomes, with the Rams pulling out a 54-51 win at the Coliseum.

And you might remember who was one of Goff’s favorite targets in that game. That’s right, Josh Reynolds. In that one, he caught six passes for 80 yards and a touchdown, finishing second on the team in receiving.

As good as the Goff-Reynolds connection was on Thursday, it was humming that night in November 2018.

Goff got a lot of hate toward the end of his Rams tenure for the way he regressed and struggled in his final season, but fans are happy to see him playing well again in Detroit. He’s even up to 359 consecutive passes without an interception, which ranks third all-time in the NFL.

In a year when the Rams may struggle to compete, some fans may begin to pull for the old friends in Detroit.
