Japanese club 'plot record-breaking transfer move' for Celtic star Kyogo Furuhashi

Kyogo Furuhashi is reportedly being targeted for a record-breaking Celtic transfer exit.

The Japanese striker, 29, has three years left on his Parkhead deal but is wanted this summer.

J-League side Urawa Red Diamonds are reportedly hopeful of signing Kyogo.

Journalist Marco Molla - who has a track record with Urawa Red Diamonds transfer stories - claims the club want to take Kyogo during the off-season.

Molla previously reported on Ola Solbakken's loan switch to the J-League side from Roma.

He adds that a "good relationship" with Celtic from last year could factor into the equation.

On X, formerly Twitter, Molla posted: "Urawa Red Diamonds hope to sign Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi this summer.

"Urawa has had a good relationship with Celtic since last year."

Urawa had previously had a bid accepted by Celtic for Giorgos Giakoumakis but the striker moved to the MLS instead.

It's claimed a home-grown player would be a top priority for Urawa Red Diamonds meaning Kyogo would be a top candidate.

With Kyogo tied down to a long-term deal at Celtic, it's likely a significant transfer fee would be required to sanction a move.

The most expensive signing made by any Japanese club was Brazilian Jo who joined Nagoyo Grampus for €11million - roughly £9.36million - in 2018.

The Scottish Sun state it's expected Urawa Red Diamonds would need to pay a record-breaking fee to land Kyogo this summer.

However, with the club qualified for the 2025 Club World Cup they could bank a potential windfall of €50m, or, £42.5m
