Japanese actress Mayuyu retires at 26

Actress Mayu Watanabe, 26, retired from show business at the end of May, her agency has announced.

Known by the nickname Mayuyu, the actress reportedly decided to leave the industry due to health reasons. She appeared in last year's NHK serial drama "Natsuzora." During her time as a member of the idol group AKB48, she was chosen as the fans' No. 1 favorite in 2014.

On Monday evening, she posted on Twitter: "Thank you very much to everyone involved and to those who supported me! We're still in a difficult situation, but please take care of yourself."
