January signing Max Wober 'in the mix' for Leeds United debut ahead of Cardiff City clash

Jesse Marsch says new signing Max Wober is 'in the mix' to feature when Leeds United travel to Cardiff City in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.

Wober became Leeds' first signing of the January transfer window when he completed his switch from reigning Austrian Bundesliga champions Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday.

The Austrian international centre-back, who is also capable of playing at left-back, played under Marsch in Salzburg - winning back-to-back league titles with the American at the Red Bull Arena.

Marsch is pleased by how well Wober has settled in, and revealed that his debut could come when the Whites travel to the Cardiff City Stadium this weekend.

"Max has I think settled in really well. He had a good training session today," Marsch told reports in his pre-match press conference.

"I think again, he understands what I'm looking for out of him and out of our team. So we'll see how fit and ready he is for this match, but he will be in the mix."

Wober becomes the eighth signing during Marsch's reign, and the fourth arrival to have previously played for him at another club.

But when asked if he is finally forming his own team at Elland Road, Marsch insisted that his main focus is to maximise the potential of every player in the group.

"To be honest, I felt like this has been our team from the start. I never look at it as these players are from the former manager and this is from the new man and my time," Marsch observed.

"When you work with a team you want to try to maximise the potential of every player in the group as a whole. The reality is most of the players when you go to a new team you inherit, the club has been very supportive about trying to bring some players that I think could fit what we're trying to achieve here, that I've worked with in the past.

"But I never looked at it that way, I enjoy getting to know people from different cultures and getting to maximise the most out of what a team is and I've enjoyed that here and I've been welcomed here maybe as well or better than anywhere I've ever been."
