January restaurant deals in London: Beat the blues with these cheap eats

It sometimes feels like you can’t do anything in January.

Veganuary means you can’t eat meat, Dry January means you can’t drink alcohol and your Christmas-drained bank balance means you can’t spend any money.

Then again, in these post-festive days, everyone needs a pick-me-up. London’s restaurants are here to rescue you from the January Blues, with many running discounts and offers to start the year off cheaply.

From discounted steaks to free dessert, these are the deals in London restaurants that will help you eat out without busting your budget.

Stem

This Mayfair restaurant is the latest venture from Mark Jarvis, chef patron of celebrated Anglo. For January, it will be running its lunch tasting menu at half price, meaning six courses will set you back just £30 instead of £60. Ready yourself for treats including lobster bisque with smoked burrata and celeriac, slow cooked lamb shoulder with sheep yoghurt, and aubergine and a bitter chocolate tart with yoghurt and bergamot.

Cinnamon Kitchen

The casual offshoots of Vivek Singh’s The Cinnamon Club are cheering up Londoners this month with an offer that they’re calling “Happy Days”. All dishes at both the Battersea and City sites of Cinnamon Kitchen will be two-for-one throughout January. This includes the Hyderabadi style stir-fried baby aubergine, a Goan style pork cheek vindaloo and a green spiced monkfish with tomato tamarind sauce and lemon rice. If you dine at the Cinnamon Club, you'll receive a £50 voucher to return.

Wright Brothers

Seafood sensation Wright Brothers is offering a whopping 50 per cent off the bill at its Battersea site for January diners who visit on Mondays and Tuesdays. What’s more, those who have booked in advance at any site (from Thursday to Sunday) can have a go at the restaurant’s Wheel of Fortune-style game “Spin of the Helm”. Spin the wheel and you’ll get a chance to win prizes including a round of cocktails, a platter of oysters – or just a pint of water.

Pomona’s

The al fresco terrace of this chic Notting Hill spot might have less allure at this time of year, but there’s plenty to tempt you inside. Quote “January Offer” when booking your table and you’ll get a free “cocktail of the day” (or mocktail, for Dry Jan diehards) with any main course order. Mains on Pomona’s menu include duck tagine with couscous and golden raisins, and ox cheek with celeriac, king oyster mushrooms, truffle and beer sauce.

Camino

Swap cloudy London for sunny Spain on a trip to one of Camino’s tapas bars and leave with some holiday spending money to spare this January. Before you go, sign up to the Camino Club – the restaurant's newsletter – and you’ll get a voucher for 30 per cent off your food bill for up to six people. This means money off the likes of jamon iberico, patatas bravas and churros – and more money to spend on sangria.

The Jones Family

These restaurants won’t be doing Veganuary any time soon – both of the January deals here revolve around big hunks of meat. The Rump and Rioja deal at Belgravia’s The Jones Family Kitchen offers a 500g, dry-aged, sharing steak from celebrated butchers The Ginger Pig, a side, and a bottle of Rioja for £48. Alternatively, The Jones Family Project in Shoreditch is offering a Burgers and Bordeaux deal, serving two oxtail-topped Longhorn chuck burgers, chips and – you guessed it – a bottle of Bordeaux for £42. Not exactly cheap, then, but a bargain for what you're getting. The offers are available Monday to Saturday, and booking is essential.

Pergola Olympia and Pergola Paddington

Spirits are high at Pergola’s rooftop bars in Olympia and Paddington this January, where you’ll be able to double your bar tab. For instance, a pre-ordered bar tab of £50 will get you £100 worth of drinks. The offer starts with an order of as little as £30, right up to £500, and is available on a Wednesday, Thursday or a Friday. While you’re there, you can also enjoy food from the likes of Patty & Bun, Canard, Claw and Yucatan.

Flemings Mayfair

The gorgeous Flemings Mayfair is beckoning Londoners out of the cold and into its oasis of old school glamour this January, and making it a pretty prospect for their pockets too. Warm up with Michelin-starred chef Shaun Rankin’s afternoon tea menu, and you’ll get 30 per cent off for the pleasure. Served inside the Indian-inspired Drawing Room, the offering includes a chicken and tarragon sandwich with maple dressing, homemade scones with Jersey Chantilly cream and a coconut dacquoise with almond and citrus cremeux.

Bokan

The views may be pretty sweet at 37-storey high Bokan, but so is its January offer. With every main course you order from the menu, you’ll get yourself a free dessert of your choice. Main courses on the menu at the Canary Wharf restaurant include slow cooked seabass with a truffle and dashi broth, and Welsh venison fillet with braised salsify.

OXO Tower Restaurant

Start the new year in style with dinner inside one of London’s most iconic buildings. The OXO Tower Restaurant and Brasserie is offering Londoners three courses from its winter menu and a complimentary cocktail for £30 in the Brasserie, and £39 in the restaurant. Highlights on the menus include truffle burrata with red wine pears and crispy parsnips, crispy fried cod with chorizo and butter bean stew, and spiced panna cotta with cranberries.
