Janmashtami 2022: Devotees throng temples to celebrate Lord Krishna's birthday

Devotees flock to temples to invoke blessings of Lord Krishna

New Delhi: Preparations are in full swing in temples across the country to celebrate Krishna Janmashtami today. The temples in the city have been decorated with colourful lights and the chants of "Jai Shree Krishna" echoing across the city.

Devotees of Lord Krishna were seen dancing to the tunes of Bhajans at the ISKCON temple in Delhi to celebrate the festival. They flocked to temples in Mathura as Janmashtami celebrations began on Thursday evening.

People have started gathering at ISKCON temples in Mumbai, Noida and other places to celebrate Janmashtami.  Similar enthusiasm and zeal have enveloped various other parts of the country where a large number of people gathered across temples and rejoiced to the chants of "Hare Krishna".

Janmashtami is celebrated every year to mark the birth of Lord Krishna. Believers observe the day by keeping a fast and praying at the temples.

As per the Hindu calendar, Lord Krishna, an avatar of Lord Vishnu, was born on the eighth day of the month of Bhadra. The day mostly falls in the months of August or September as per the Western calendar.
