Janey Godley shares four key signs of ovarian cancer in bid to save lives

Janey Godley has urged her followers to look out for the four signs of ovarian cancer as her own battle continues.

In December 2021, the Scots comedian found out she had the disease after experiencing key symptoms including bloating and frequent urination. A month later she underwent a hysterectomy but was told she would need further treatment as her cancer had progressed to stage 3b.

She was then given the all clear, however, scans in recent months have shown that the cancer has returned meaning the 62-year-old will need to undergo further chemotherapy.

Today on Twitter, Janey shared a throwback snap and urged others to look out for signs of the ovarian cancer, which affects the ovaries.

She penned: "I miss my hair, I miss my ovaries and womb and I missed the symptoms of ovarian cancer don’t let that happen to you 1. Bloating and swollen tummy 2. Feeling full before you eat 3. Peeing too much 4. Sore abdomen."

She then went on to share a poster of early stage symptoms and advanced symptoms.

And many of her followers praised her for raising awareness. One wrote: "Using your profile to raise awareness of the symptoms of ovarian cancer; is so helpful and could save others. I tend to retweet selectively. I really enjoy your voiceovers, comedy and 31st Dec BBC radio contribution!"

Another added: "Thanks for sharing Janey. My Mom has been gone for 20 years and at the time missed all these signs. The biopsy gave us the bad news. She managed another 3 years following diagnose on a 6 month best guess. Catching it early is the best way to combat it."

While one penned: "I didn’t know these at all. Thank you."

Just a few days ago, Janey reflected on the past year by sharing an emotional snap of her husband shaving off her hair.

Shortly after her diagnosis, the comedian decided to shave her long locks off before she lost them due to the side effects of chemotherapy. At the time, she shared the emotional black and white photograph of her husband Sean's hands on her head as he used an electric razor to shave her hair.

And as she headed into the new year, despite her cancer returning and having to undergo even more treatment, Janey reshared the snap and said it was her favourite of the year.

She wrote: "My fav photo of 2022, my husband shaving the remains of my hair through the first chemo sessions. We both cried. He was so gentle."
