Janey Godley has thanked her fans for their support after she had her head shaved by her husband on Monday ahead of her second round of chemotherapy treatment.

Earlier this month, Godley had trimmed her hair into a pixie cut, but since revealed that she had taken the decision to shave it completely.

Sharing a photograph of her husband behind her with a hair trimmer to social media site Instagram, she wrote: "My husband has performed his first ever hair trim, with gentle care and I think he’s done a good job!"

Before long, the post was flooded with comments of support from fans.

One posted: "Stay Strong! We love you"

"It will come back and you will be on the mend," said a second.

A third wrote: "Massive thing to do. Hair doth not maketh a woman. You will be fabulous with hair or without. It may come back as ginger, now that would be a result".

Another stated: "That must have been confronting and difficult, I'm so sorry. You do look at lovely as always though. Sending love and strength".

"Still looking strong and beautiful," shared a fifth.

A sixth commented: "You’re rocking it my lovely! You’ve got this"

"What a good man - you beautiful human - sending you lots of strength," a seventh said.

On Tuesday morning, the comedian shared a video update on Instagram as she revealed she was about to begin her second round of treatment.

She said: "It's second chemotherapy day. I just want to thank everybody for sending me all the love and support, and for all the other ladies — and men — who have been sending pictures of their heads being shaved and beautiful, uplifting stories of how they positively came through this, that really helps.

"It really helps when I'm feeling a bit s****y. But I want to thank you all so much for just lifting me up and sending me your support.

"So I'm gonna get through the second round of chemotherapy today and tonight I'm gonna lie and watch the telly and put my feet up with my wee sausage dog. Thank you so much, love to you all."

Stroking her head, she added: "I kind of think I'm getting used to this. I like it. It's a strange feeling, but it's my feeling and it's me."
