Janey Godley restarts chemotherapy after devastating news cancer has returned

Janey Godley has undergone her first chemotherapy session since confirming earlier this week her cancer has returned.

The Scots comedian gave fans a heartbreaking health update on Tuesday as she told them in a video posted to Twitter that recent tests had revealed signs of the disease in her abdomen.

Today Janey shared a picture on Twitter of her lying in a hospital bed for her first round of treatment since receiving the news.

She said: "Canula got put in first time for chemo - grateful to Scottish NHS."

The 61-year-old has been inundated with messages of love and support - many from the world of showbiz - and says she's been left in tears reading them all.

Reacting to today's update, one person said: "Sending love Janey. Your strength is an inspiration x"

Another wrote: "Keep positive and you’ll get there. I’m on round 5 and it’s [poo emoji] but it’s better than the alternative."

A third tweeted: "Sending masses of good wishes"

While a fourth replied: "Good luck, I’m on second round, too. It’s tough, but doable. Did swap to a port for number 5/6 last week, though, and makes life more bearable!"

"That’s a good start, it once took 18 attempts to get a cannula in me as I was dehydrated. Good luck today, sending you warm hugs xx," penned a fifth.

Earlier this week Janey said she is determined to get back on stage so her upcoming Not Dead Yet Tour will still go ahead, but she added it might be the last time she is able to perform live.

Taking to Twitter to reveal her devastating news, she said: “My recent scan and my blood tests showed that my cancer marker went up.

“There’s still a bit of disease in my abdomen. So I want you all to know that I’ll be going through some more chemotherapy.

“I also want you to know that I’m going ahead with the tour in February and March. I am determined to get back on stage.

“I’m looking forward to the tour, I think it’s fair and honest to say it might be the last time you see me live on stage. I’m hoping it’s not, but I think it’s a fair estimation.”
