Janey Godley pays tribute to NHS and thanks fans for support after revealing her cancer is back

Comedian Janey Godley has praised the NHS and thanked her fans after announcing that her cancer has returned.

The 61-year-old had told fans in June that she was cancer free but on Tuesday updated her 276,628 Twitter followers with a video where she confirmed the disease had sadly come back following recent test results.

Janey was diagnosed with stage three ovarian cancer in November 2021 and had undergone chemotherapy treatment and a hysterectomy procedure.

Among those to send Janey messages on the social media platform was Emmerdale actress Samantha Giles, who commented: "Sending love to you for successful new treatment/ you’ve been through so much. Thinking of you xxx."

As fellow comedians, celebrities and fans wished Janey well as she resumes treatment for the disease, she still took time to pay tribute to the NHS.

Responding to a tweet following her update, she replied: "I was diagnosed in 24 hrs of a GP appointment, had a hysterectomy, 6 sessions of chemo, 4 blood transfusions, cancer treatments - 20 face to face with a cancer specialist all under Scottish NHS thanks Mr True Blue."

Despite the news, Janey remained positive as she reassured her loyal fans that she will still be performing her upcoming Not Dead Yet Tour dates across the UK.

The Scottish star admitted it may be the "last time" she performs live on stage next year, with the tour scheduled to kick off in Scotland in February 2023 with some additional dates in London.

In the update video posted on Twitter, Jane said: "My recent scan and my blood tests showed that my cancer marker went up.

"There’s still a bit of disease in my abdomen. So I want you all to know that I’ll be going through some more chemotherapy.

She added: "I also want you to know that I’m going ahead with the tour in February and March. I am determined to get back on stage.

"I’m looking forward to the tour, I think it’s fair and honest to say it might be the last time you see me live on stage. I’m hoping it’s not, but I think it’s a fair estimation that will be what we're looking at."
