Janey Godley last saw 'murdered' mum on Mother's Day 40 years ago

Janey Godley has shared a tribute to her late mother as this Mother's Day marks 40 years since she last saw her alive.

The Scots comedian's mother Annie was found dead in the Clyde during the 1980s and Janey claims her mother's violent partner Peter Greenshields was to blame for her death.

And in a social media post today, Janey has been remembering her mother, saying she will never be forgotten.

Sharing a picture of her mum, Janey wrote: "40 years ago, #MothersDay 1982 was the last time I saw my mammy alive, days later, she was murdered by her ex boyfriend and thrown in the River Clyde - her name was Annie Currie - she will not be forgotten #HappyMothersDay2022."

And many flocked to the comments to say they were thinking of her.

One said: "Sending you much love and will be thinking of you on Sunday."

While one added: "I am so terribly sorry to hear what happened to your lovely mammy. I hope you can remember all your beautiful memories of her."

Another wrote: "Sending you so much love Janey…remembering your beautiful mum today."

Janey has spoken previously about her mother's death saying she believe that Peter got away with "killing" Annie.

In an Instagram post last year, Janey wrote: "The police said “she was a wee drunk woman” Her killer Peter had been charged 3 time previously for attacking her and met her after he came out of prison for trying to kill a different woman. Peter said she “fell into the river” and he didn’t bother to report it - cops agreed."

Janey has previously opened up about her mother's death and said in a way she was 'strangely blessed' that her body was found soon after her disappearance.

She said: "Watching documentaries about women who went missing and years later their body is found, makes me feel strangely blessed that my mums body was found in River Clyde four days after she went missing, even though the guy that killed her escaped justice, I didn’t have to wait years.

"Some women were never found and although I still miss Annie (my mum) I am at peace that we never spent decades wondering where she is, that is such a trauma for families."

In one of her podcast episodes, she said: "Peter had been put in prison before he met my mum for beating up women but my mum always told me it wasn't true.

"She told me he'd killed a swan and cooked it once, mum also told me to never argue back with Peter.

"One night I found my mum lying on Peter's living room floor, he was about to attack her with an axe.

"One Friday night my mum went missing and she's been with Peter.

"On the Monday morning her body was found in the River Clyde.

"Police said there was no evidence to suggest Peter had done it."
