Jane Seymour urges older actresses not to 'give up' and to stay 'authentic'

Jane Seymour at The Hollywood Reporter's Annual Women In Entertainment Gala

Jane Seymour has urged older actresses not to "give up".

The 73-year-old actress knows continued success after more than six decades in the industry isn't "easy" but advised other women to keep being themselves and not try to act younger than they are.

She told People magazine: “Don’t take it for granted. It isn’t easy.

“The balance of how you come across and how you conduct yourself is huge, sadly.

"But also I’ve never given up. I now have my own series again, and I’m in my 70s. So I say to women, ‘Don’t give up and be authentic.’ Don’t pretend to be 20 when you’re 70. Be 70.”

The 'Harry Wild' actress enjoyed attending The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala this week and getting to celebrate the success of other females in the industry.

She said: “It’s a great honour, and it’s wonderful because I’ve been working in entertainment since I was 13, so that’s 60 years, and to see how women are really having their moment now and telling their stories and telling stories normally wouldn’t have been told is very empowering.”

Jane singled out 'Emilia Perez' actress Selena Gomez - who received the Equity in Entertainment Award at the event - for particular praise.

She said: “I just saw Selena’s movie last night. I was blown away. They were all incredible.

"There’s so many amazing young actresses… she’s being honoured today for very good reason. To cross genres and to do both is fantastic.”

The 'Live and Let Die' actress - who has Katherine, 42, and Sean, 39, with ex-husband David Flynn, and 32-year-old twins John and Kristopher with second ex-husband James Keach - couldn't be happier with life at the moment.

She said: “I’m enjoying my life. I’ve got grandchildren, kids, an amazing extended family and there’s a lot of joy in my life right now.”
