Jane Fonda has given the teens on TikTok a run for their money, as the star of Grace and Frankie made a hilarious flex - showing off a mug with her 1970s mugshot.
Set to the tune of the Dolly Parton song '9 to 5' (which featured in her 1980 comedy of the same name), Fonda shared a video of her daily routine which included making a coffee in the mug and doing the squats she did “in jail.”
After Fonda’s alarm went off and she picked up her dog and put her sunglasses on, she showed off the mugshot mug in a close up as she made her coffee.
She wrote in text overlaying the video, “Mug shot makes a good mug shot.”
Next, she was seen doing squats against a wall which she captioned, “I did these squats in jail.”
Parton has proudly written about her mugshot and incarceration, which she claimed in an essay called Mug Shot was under “orders from the White House - that would be the Nixon White House.”
At the time, Fonda was a prominent anti-Vietnam war activist and was arrested on drug smuggling charges after returning to Cleveland from a Canadian speaking event as she was carrying vitamins with her (which she had disclosed).
The mugshot instantly became an iconic portrait of Fonda, as she still had the punk hairstyle from her film Klute - which she won an Oscar for - and was pictured raising her fist in defiance.
“I was released on bond and months later, after every pill had been tested in a lab (with taxpayers' money!) the charges were dismissed and there were a few paragraphs hidden in the back of papers that they were vitamins, not drugs,” she elaborated.
In fact, Fonda began selling merchandise with her mugshot on it on her website in 2017 - as well as shirts, jackets and more.
All proceeds from the mugshot merchandise go to the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential. A similar mug shot mug retails for $19.99 on the site.
The TikTok was posted on Earth Day to raise awareness for Greenpeace’s Fire Drill Fridays - a weekly climate change protest.
In the video, she could be seen chatting on Zoom to other members of Greenpeace and called for people to “text Jane to 877 877” for more information.
Fonda has been arrested five times in total, with subsequent arrests relating to her climate change protests outside the Capitol Building in Washington.
Last year, she made headlines as she gave her BAFTA winners' speech as she was being arrested during a climate change protest in Los Angeles.
Her Grace and Frankie co-star Sam Waterston, as well as The Good Place's Ted Danson, have also been arrested at protests with her.
As for how Fonda wrapped up her day at 5pm? She ended her video with a shot of her passed out at her laptop, with an empty martini glass beside her.
She wrote, “Work hard play hard."
