Rangers could complete another MLS raid as they have been linked with a move for San Jose Earthquakes midfielder Jan Gregus.
Michael Beale is looking to put his stamp on the squad next month as Gers look to make up some ground on Celtic and keep the title race interesting. The boss is on record as saying he wants to assess his current group before making any transfer decisions but there is likely to be some incoming movement after a poor start to the season, especially with the likes of Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos potentially on the move with their contracts ticking down.
Midfield is an area Beale could identify for improvement with Scott Arfield and Steven Davis ageing and Ryan Jack's patchy injury record leaving them short of reliable depth in the middle of the park. Glen Kamara has also been linked with a move away with several teams in Serie A thought to be interested in the Finland cap.
According to Italian outlet La Gazzetta Express, 31-year-old Gregus is a target. The defensive midfielder, who previously played for Bolton Wanderers and Copenhagen before moving to MLS in 2019, is out of contract from December 31 and could be in line for a return to Europe.
Gregus has been capped 36 times by Slovakia and brings a vast wealth of experience to the table. The 6ft2in playmaker is noted for his physical presence and ability to pick a pass and it's reported that Rangers are keen, alongside French side Stade Rennais, in adding him to the squad.
Gregus has seven assists in 29 appearances this season but it's already confirmed he will be leaving San Jose in January. Rangers could land him for free if they decide to make a move and that's reported to be one of the big attractions for the Ibrox side.
