Jamie Raskin says Trump has ‘essentially’ admitted to January 6 crimes
Donald Trump has taken to Truth Social to once again attack the 6 January select committee’s investigation. Deriding it as a symptom of “Trump Derangement Syndrome”, he fumed that “crazed” Democrats are “playing the ridiculous Insurrection Card” because of his supposedly strong polling.
The ex-president yesterday defended the violent rioters who stormed the US Capitol in his name as “well behaved”.
The committee is today turning its focus to two pivotal swing states for its fourth public hearing, which will tell the story of Mr Trump’s efforts to personally pressure elected officials in Georgia and Arizona to overturn his defeat in their respective states.
The Georgia section of the hearing will feature testimony from two key state officials, secretary of state Brad Raffensperger and his lead deputy, Gabe Sterling, both of whom resisted direct personal and public pressure from the then-president to overturn the result.
As he pressured them to bend the results his way, Mr Trump called on personal loyalties and even threatened criminal prosecution as reprisal.
