JAMMU: The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and the alternative route to valley- historic Mughal Road have been closed for vehicular traffic due to landslides and shooting stones at Mehar and Hari katha respectively, the Traffic officials said on Monday.
"NH-44 blocked due to landslide/shooting stones at Mehar. People are advised not to travel till restoration," Jammu and Kashmir Traffic police said in a tweet.
Traffic Police officials said, "Normal vehicular traffic has been disrupted on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway in the Mehad area of Ramban due to shooting stones and landslides since early morning".
Traffic police in a Tweet said, "NH-44 blocked due to landslide/shooting stones at Mehar. People are advised not to travel till restoration."
"NH-44 blocked due 2 landslide/shooting stones @ Mehar. People r advised not 2 travel till restoration work is completed." it added.
"The traffic was restored at around 3.00pm that too partially i.e. one way at the landlise vulnerable points so as to clear the stranded vehicles." Meanwhile, Quick Response Team (QRT) Ramban members were also seen assisting in regulation of traffic at critical location on NH-44 near Jaiswal Bridge, Karol.

J&K Traffic Police also informed that the alternative road to Kashmir - the Mughal Road also is closed for normal traffic due to landslide at Hari Katha. @Traffic_hqrs tweeted, "Mughal road blocked due 2 landslide @ Hari katha. People r advised not 2 travel on NH-44 & Mughal road till restoration work is completed.
In view of the heavy rains and inclement weather conditions the District administration Ramban of Jammu and Kashmir has ordered for closure of all schools, upto Class X for the day across the district.
Official order from Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ramban, Mussarat Islam reads , "In view of heavy rains and the warning of flash floods, all schools up to the secondary level (Class 10) shall remain closed in Ramban district today (June 26). Teachers will attend to their duties." Similarly, the district administration Doda has also ordered for closure of the schools up to Class VIII across the district for the day in wake of heavy rains.
The administration has released advisories that rain may lead to localised flash flood & mudslide in vulnerable spots, especially in Jammu region and water level in rivers, streams and nallas are also expected to rise. People have been requested to remain cautious and alert during the active phase of monsoon in J&K
