Jamie Redknapp makes Conor Gallagher and Chelsea admission amid England start for Palace star

Former Liverpool and Tottenham star Jamie Redknapp says that Chelsea loanee Conor Gallagher is the "complete" player as the midfielder prepared for his first England start.

Gallagher, 22, was drafted in for England's first international break fixture of the March period alongside Crystal Palace teammate Marc Guehi in the Three Lions' friendly against Switzerland on Saturday afternoon. A sensational first half of the season has catapulted him into the national team.

His spell in Croydon this term has Chelsea fans dreaming of another academy graduate making the step up to the first team next season. Despite not knowing where his future lies next term with Patrick Vieira weighing in, Tuchel and most recently Guehi himself offering his advice, football.london understands that the German has big plans for the midfielder.

Ahead of the game, Redknapp admitted that he did not see such a quick rise to the top coming from the Cobham graduate. However, he believes the loan move to Crystal Palace has done the young star the world of good.

"I have to be totally honest, I really like him but I didn't see him becoming the player he has," he said on Sky Sports. "I watched him a lot in the Chelsea youth team and he was a good technical player, what's made the difference for him is confidence and scoring goals.

"When you see yourself in headlines, scoring goals live on Sky against Everton, they are the moments where everyone talks about you. People will go out in the garden and try and replicate those moments. He's nicking in with goals, scruffy goals, getting his numbers up, that's what gets you noticed.

"I think as a footballer you notice that. When you're playing okay, getting 7/10 that's fine. It's when you start scoring goals, that's what gets you on the back pages, that's when people start to talk about you in a different light as a midfield player. He's become a complete one."
