Jamie Redknapp issues Liverpool warning to Man City in Premier League title race

Jamie Redknapp has warned Manchester City the title race remains open, despite Pep Guardiola’s side extending their lead over Liverpool once again.

City went 12 points clear of the Reds with a comprehensive 4-0 win over Norwich, with Raheem Sterling scoring a perfect hat-trick at Carrow Road.

With Liverpool not playing until Sunday against Burnley, the Blues have once again ensured they haven’t suffered a slip-up in their title defence as they strengthen their grip at the top of the table.

Jurgen Klopp’s side, though, will still hold a game in hand after their trip to Turf Moor, and could potentially narrow the gap to six points with a visit to the Etihad still to come later in the season.

And former Liverpool midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Redknapp believes City still have a lot of work to do before they can claim another title.

“For Liverpool, Luis Diaz as a signing looks exceptional. I don’t think it’s over by any stretch of the imagination,” Redknapp said.

“Of course, if you’re going to have a bet, you’d bet Man City because they’re just incredible to watch, but it can change and it can turn.

“Champions League now is coming in, he might be resting a couple of players, and right now we look at City and think it doesn’t matter who they bring in, they’re still as strong as each other.

“But Liverpool are still in this title race, make no mistake about it. You can see the hunger that they’ve got. There’s no room for error, but there’s no room for error for Man City either.

“They’ve done incredibly, we spoke at the start of the season about how are they going to win it without a striker, and they’ve shown they always find a way.

“They’re incredible, but so are Liverpool, and I do believe that this is still open. It’s not a case of it’s all over bar the shouting, Liverpool are still right in this title race.

“You can see defensively they’re sound, they’ve got hunger in midfield, and going forward they’ve now got an extra option and an extra ability to get goals. I still wouldn’t write off Liverpool just yet.”
