Jamie Redknapp doesn't agree with Rio Ferdinand about Liverpool and Jude Bellingham

Jamie Redknapp has disagreed with Rio Ferdinand's claim that Liverpool will not be on Jude Bellingham's radar.

The 19-year-old is never far away from being mooted with a move away from Borussia Dortmund and Reds manager Jurgen Klopp is an admirer of the midfielder. This season, the German's side have slipped down the table as their standards haven't matched those that have been set in recent seasons.

Their struggles have coincided with the growing urge to bolster their squad. This summer looks set to be a busy one as a number of transfer demands have been made from the Liverpool manager as Bellingham remains a player hotly tipped. While his signature 'won't be easy', Redknapp believes Anfield is a "viable option".

"They'll still be able to get the best," he said speaking to Sky Sports. "I believe the players that might come in, Jude Bellingham, he will look at Liverpool and Klopp as a viable option because of what it will bring and how he can improve.

"It's not going to be an easy signing because everyone wants him but that's the sort of player you've got to be looking for, if you want to improve and start challenging again - as low as it has been for Liverpool at times - you're never far away.

"You're only one or two players away, look at what Man United have done with [Erik] Ten Hag, they've brought in a couple of players, all of a sudden there's a bit of belief and they're flying high.

His comments come after the former Manchester United defender questioned whether a move to Merseyside would be right for him. Speaking in light of the Reds' humiliation in the Champions League to Real Madrid, Ferdinand told BT Sport: "I think Bellingham’s intelligent enough not to look at one result or one game in isolation.

"He’ll be looking at the bigger picture. Where are Liverpool? What does it look like in the next 12 months at Liverpool? What sort of impact can I have at Liverpool?

"If we said six months ago I don’t think Bellingham would question Liverpool’s trajectory because they were in a different place but at the moment I don’t think Liverpool are going to be on his radar. That will be very disappointing for Liverpool fans to hear that," he added.

"I think the club is in transition at the moment. I think that obviously the club is up for sale, whatever that looks like. But the more important thing is the team just isn’t functioning in the right way and there’s a transition in the team in terms of there’s old players there who need to be shifted and there’s young players that need to come in.

"Does he come into that or does he go to a team that looks like they can win right now? Real Madrid have to be top of the list at the minute."
