Jamie Redknapp believes the Premier League race for Champions League qualification will be the 'tightest ever' but is backing Liverpool to get over the line.
The Reds can move up to fifth in the table and just a point behind fourth-placed Manchester United if they can beat Brentford in West London this evening, with the Bees sweating on the fitness of all-action centre forward Ivan Toney.
Liverpool have the opportunity to leapfrog Tottenham after Antonio Conte's side suffered a miserable 2-0 defeat at home to Aston Villa on New Year's Day and Sky Sports pundit Redknapp, who played for both the Reds and Spurs during his career, is confident that Jurgen Klopp's side will finish the season in the stronger position.

Speaking on Sky Sports after Tottenham's surprise loss against Villa, Redknapp said: “I didn’t have them [Spurs] in my top four to start and I still don’t. I don’t think they’ve got quite enough, it’s going to take a lot. I think it’s going to be Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, that’s my four. Listen, a lot is going to change. This is going to be the tightest top four ever.
“You look at Arsenal who have had an incredible start but if we can say Man City are going to catch Arsenal, why can’t Chelsea catch Manchester United? What’s that seven points? There’s so many permutations, so many things can happen. You can go on a good run, get an injury for a couple of players – everything can change.”
Liverpool have gained some much-needed momentum in their league campaign by winning their last four matches, albeit not always in convincing fashion. The 2-1 home win against Leicester City on December 30 only arrived after falling behind to the visitors before two comical own goals from Foxes defender Wout Faes gave the Reds all three points.
New signing Cody Gakpo is not expected to figure in the match unless his registration is completed in time, but France World Cup star Imbrahima Konate could be set to return, if he is given the nod by Klopp.
