Jamie Oliver's children's unique names and the stories behind them

Jamie Oliver is one of the most recognisable chefs in the UK.

But over the past 17 years, Jamie and his wife Jools have made headlines away from the kitchen.

Jamie has been married to Jools since 2000, having met each when they were 17-years-old.

They now have five children together and it's their names that have caught the attention of the public thanks to their originality.

They are parents to Poppy Honey Rosie, 17, Petal Blossom Rainbow, 10, Buddy Bear Maurice, nine, Daisy Boo Pamela, 16, and River Rocket Blue, three.

Jools fell pregnant with her first child, Poppy, in 2001 following a successful round of IVF, reports MyLondon.

She wrote about the moment she discovered she was expecting Poppy in her book Minus Nine To One: The Diary Of An Honest Mum.

In an extract published to The Telegraph in 2005, she wrote: "I took the test into the bedroom and ever so casually sat down to watch This Morning.

“With one eye on Richard and Judy, I glanced at the test.

“This time it was different – before my eyes, the test became positive.

“That magical blue line appeared and I just didn’t believe it. I felt weak at the knees.

“I grabbed the phone to call Jamie, but his bloody mobile was turned off.

“I had to tell someone, so I phoned my mum – I screamed into her answering machine: 'I’m pregnant! I’m pregnant!'”

Speaking to Gurgle magazine about how she decides on a name, Jools said: “They all have more than one name because I couldn’t decide.

“I’m not sure where Petal Blossom Rainbow came from - apparently it’s a My Little Pony.

"I wanted to call her Rainbow but Jamie told me to calm down.

“With Buddy, it was quite fun choosing a boy’s name as I hadn’t done it before. And I hate people’s opinions on names. Whatever you call your baby is your decision.”

River Rocket Blue's name allegedly takes inspiration from Jamie's early career.

He was first discovered by the BBC when working as a Sous Chef in the acclaimed River Cafe in Fulham back in 1997, and so marked that honour by naming his son River.
