Jamie McGrath transfer update as Hibs-linked star wanted by Dundee United boss Jim Goodwin full-time

Jim Goodwin admits he will be in the mix to try and sign Jamie McGrath on a permanent deal if he remains at Dundee United.

The former Aberdeen boss is currently in charge of the Tangerines until the summer as he bids to keep them in the Premiership for next season. His new side are flying with three wins on the trot lifting them into tenth - four points ahead of bottom club Ross County.

On-loan McGrath - who has been linked with Hibs in recent days - has been instrumental in that run of results by finding the back of the net in all three victories. His current boss, who also had him at St Mirren, is aware clubs north and south of the border will be taking notice of what he is producing ahead of the summer transfer window opening.

Should Goodwin land an extended stay at Tannadice he will do all he can to bring back the Republic of Ireland international on a full-time basis from Wigan. Celtic hero Scott Brown and his Fleetwood Town side have been namechecked as an interested party while Shaun Maloney is reported to be ready to convince him to remain with the Latics.

Goodwin told the Daily Record: “There will be a number of teams in Scotland who will be interested in Jamie.

"I know it hasn’t worked out the way he would have liked at Wigan but I do think there will be a number of teams down there taking notice of what he is doing.

"I have worked closely for a couple of years at St Mirren and since coming in here, that relationship is a good one.

"We work well together and wherever I end up in the summer or what opportunities I get in the summer then I would want to be one of those managers in the mix to try and make Jamie a permanent signing."
