Birmingham City have reportedly taken a step back in their pursuit of St Mirren midfielder Jamie McGrath.
The English Championship club have been heavily linked with a swoop for the talented Saints playmaker this month, with the Ireland international free to sign a pre-contract deal outside of Paisley.
He has already turned down a switch to Aberdeen, the side he helped the Buddies beat last night after returning to the squad, with the 25-year-old understood to favour a move to England.
The Blues were in the running for his signature, but Birmingham Live now report that boss Lee Bowyer has moved on from McGrath.
They state Birmingham were "credited with an interest earlier in the transfer window but it is understood that he won’t be coming to St Andrew’s."
That could well be down to the fact Birmingham are understood to have made a bid for another midfielder, with a fee which could rise to £1million.
That leaves McGrath's future increasingly uncertain, with League One side Wigan having also been linked with the midfielder as well as Championship clubs Middlesborough and Sheffield United in the past.
