Jamie McGrath is in no doubt Jim Goodwin can save Dundee United’s Premiership skin.
The Tannadice club are four points adrift at the foot of the table after losing to Aberdeen. McGrath played under Goodwin at St Mirren and is adamant he can get them off the bottom. The midfielder said: “I had a good relationship with Jim in the past. I played my best football under him. Hopefully I can get more goals between now and the end of the season to get us up the table.
“He has been massive and took a gamble on me coming over. He put a lot of faith in me, coming from the League of Ireland. To repay him with success at St Mirren was a great period. Hopefully I can up my performances because lately they haven’t been up to scratch. I’m hoping he can get the best out of me, I can get a bit more authority on the pitch and chip in with more goals.”
United have shipped too many goals and McGrath acknowledged it needs to be addressed. He added: “The gaffer stressed in our first session we need to stop leaking goals to give ourselves a chance in games. We can’t be scoring two or three goals to stay in a game. We should have done that here.”
United could cut the gap to a point if they beat Livingston on Wednesday. McGrath said: “We’re well aware of where we are in the league. At the same time, there’s a lot of football to be played and a lot of points to be played for. We can’t get panicky or overawed by it. We are well aware where we are but we know how quickly things can turn around.”
