'Jamie Lee Curtis killed me by accident' - Ryan Tubridy reacts to Hollywood star's Instagram tribute

Ryan Tubridy has joked how Jamie Lee Curtis "killed me by accident" after the Hollywood star's tribute post sparked accidental concern for the RTE host.

The Oscar-winning actress, who had appeared on the Late Late Show in October, shared a photo of herself and Ryan on Instagram on Sunday with a lovely tribute following the news of his departure from the popular talk show. Jamie, 64, wrote: "You will be missed! Thank you for the light you brought so many."

The well-meaning post resulted in several of her five million followers thinking Ryan had died. He joked: "Jamie Lee Curtis kind of killed me by accident. It was death by kind adventure."

Speaking on The Ryan Tubridy Show on RTE Radio One yesterday, Ryan spoke about a hilarious exchange in her comments about his fake death. He said: "She shared a very nice Instagram post saying: ‘We’ll miss you and so sorry you’re gone’, and then there was confusion because people have no idea who I am.

"Pretty much all of her followers were going: ‘Oh, is he okay?’ So this person got on to the comments and said: ‘Oh no, I’m sorry for his family’s loss’.

"And an Irish person got involved and said: ‘He’s not dead!’ To which the person responded: ‘What happened to him?’

"To which the Irish person said: ‘He just left the Late Late Show.’ To which the American person said: ‘Copy. Have no clue who he is. Glad he’s okay though.’ End of exchange."

He laughed: "All cleaned up and tidied up in the course of a few messages."

Ryan spoke about his friendship with the Halloween actress saying it was "just warmth, instantly" with Jamie. He said: "We'd got on very well and we'd stayed in touch a little bit off-air."
