Jamie Lee Curtis Compares L.A. Fires To War-Torn Gaza And The Internet Is Not Happy

Jamie Lee Curtis is under scrutiny regarding her comments on the current crisis in Gaza due to the Israel-Palestine conflict; describing the current LA fires as looking like they belong in a scene from the war-torn country.

“The entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened.”

This comment was made during a Q&A session alongside fellow actress Pamela Anderson for the pair’s upcoming film, The Last Showgirl, when Curtis answered a question regarding her thoughts on the fire.

Her comment faced a wave of criticism online, with one Reddit user describing her as “so tone-deaf, oh my god…” for comparing the two.

“Fucking celebrities at it again. They love any opportunity to prop themselves up as a victim,” another user wrote.

This isn’t the first time the actress has been dragged due to her stance regarding the Israel-Palestine conflict, as she was widely condemned for reposting a photo of children in Gaza by Palestinian photojournalist Samar Abu Elouf and inaccurately stating they are Israeli.

Captioned “TERROR FROM THE SKIES” alongside an emoji of the Israeli flag, users were quick to point out her mistake.

Commentators stated that the photo is of children in Gaza, not Israel, and that the signs in the background were in Arabic, not Hebrew.

The image was soon deleted off the star’s feed seemingly after realising her blunder – but as everyone knows, the internet remembers everything

Despite her controversial statement and social media faux pas, Curtis has pledged to donate $US1 million ($1.6M Aussie bucks) to fire relief efforts

In an Instagram post, Curtis explained that she is in talks with California Governor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass to help direct these funds to where they can make “the most impact”.

The L.A. fires currently have a death toll of 11
